西工兵营·中西结合古建筑
西工兵营初建时占地4000亩，建营房5000间，整个工程耗费上等白银170万两。1916年建成后，西工兵营成为各地军阀互相争夺的焦点。1920年9月，直系军阀吴佩孚进驻这里后，兵营的规模扩大至占地1万余亩，房屋增加至1万余间。1932年，南京国民政府迁至洛阳，国民党中央党部驻扎于兵营；七七事变后，兵营成为第一战区司令长官部。此外，中国近代史上的许多重要人物和事件都与洛阳西工兵营有关。
洛阳西工兵营旧址当前主要由四合院、高级住宅、惜阴书室、老吴桥和阅兵台组成。四合院具有典型的中国古代建筑风格，南北大厅走廊的木柱基座为中国古典力士石刻柱础，北大厅的门廊中间地面用水泥刻画的“寿”字图案，系为蒋介石五十寿辰所作。高级住宅这座建筑距今已有近百年历史，其中的木门窗多为西欧古典款式。另外这里还有一处秘密藏身处——地下室，通过地下通道可直接到当今的洛阳机场（当今的河南科技大学第二附属医院附近）。

砖木结构
惜阴书室是洛阳西工兵营现存地面建筑的重要组成部分，位于司令部旧址的东侧、原兵营东花园内，现做仓库使用，是一个四孔的地上人工窑洞式建筑。惜阴书室现存四孔窑洞，为青砖结构，坐北朝南，西起第二孔较大宽3米，其他三孔宽2.6米，窑深6米，净高2.8米。大窑内有侧门可以通旁小窑，靠东两小窑又在后设有小窑可串通。外墙与窑身全部用砖砌或拱券，前开门窗，后有小窗，券拱上填厚约1米的土，再覆盖瓦片防雨，屋顶采用女儿墙有组织排水。
室内墙面、拱顶均抹白灰，地坪为水泥地面，室内的地坪比室外的地坪低，门窗镶玻璃。现存西起第二间（原状五孔时为西起第三间）拱圈上墙壁内镶嵌一青石匾额，上书“XXX题惜阴书室，一九三九七七”。匾额上所署日期后被接任第一战区司令长官的蒋鼎文指控为卫立煌“通共”的证据。匾额上的题名相传为蒋介石题，不知何时何故已被凿掉。
